Michael A. Leonard II

Michael Leonard is a partner and co-founder of Leonard, Patel & Olson, P.C. His practice is focused on intellectual property matters, particularly the procurement of patents in the fields of software and electronics. He has prosecuted patents for large corporations based in the United States, Finland, Japan, Korea and Germany, procuring patents in numerous computer science and electrical engineering fields including various software technologies, mobile telecommunications, optics, robotics, jet and rocket engine design and circuit fabrication, among others. Mr. Leonard has also provided patent infringement analysis for a major microchip manufacturer in a large patent litigation matter. Prior to co-founding Leonard, Patel & Olson, Mr. Leonard practiced intellectual property law with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey and Staas & Halsey in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., respectively.

Mr. Leonard received a B.S. in computer science and engineering from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center. Prior to law school, Mr. Leonard was a consultant and software engineer. He developed various software applications including an embedded operating system based on the Java programming language and the server side component of a digital marketplace application. He also clerked for Thompson Hine in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he handled intellectual property matters for large regional clients. Mr. Leonard is a member of the Virginia State Bar, registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). Mr. Leonard has been published in the Intellectual Property Counselor by West, as well as several intellectual property newsletters published by Squire, Sanders & Dempsey.

Jared T. Olson

Mr. Olson is a registered patent attorney that focuses his practice on helping high-tech companies secure intellectual property rights through patents, trademarks, and copyrights. He has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of U.S. and international patent applications on behalf of many industry leaders and Fortune 500 Companies. He has extensive experience with various fields of technology such as computer hardware and software, network and data storage devices, semiconductors, telecommunication systems, medical and mechanical devices, automotive systems, robotics, and energy production and conservation systems. He has also advised clients on issues such as patent protection strategies, patent portfolio management, patent enforcement, and patent infringement. In collaboration with non-U.S. attorneys, he has also managed the prosecution of several international patent families with applications in countries and regions such as Europe, China, India, Japan, Canada and Mexico.

Mr. Olson received a B.S. from Brigham Young University and a J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center. During law school, he served as a patent prosecution associate for a Utah-based patent services firm. He also held a patent litigation clerkship with the United States International Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. Mr. Olson is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the American Intellectual Property Association, and the American Bar Association.

Sheetal S. Patel

Sheetal Patel is a partner at Leonard Patel & Olson PC, where he focuses on patent prosecution and innovation counseling. As a patent attorney, Sheetal has worked with domestic and international corporations to help procure patents in various fields involving software applications, electrical devices, business methods, wireless communications and robotics. Prior to co-founding Leonard Patel & Olson PC, Sheetal practiced as an associate at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey in Northern Virginia and Staas & Halsey in Washington, D.C.

Sheetal received a B.S. in computer science from California State Polytechnic University of Pomona and a J.D. from John Marshall Law School. During law school, Mr. Patel prosecuted patents for Staas & Halsey in Washington, D.C., serving as a summer associate. Mr. Patel is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the California State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, and the AIPLA.
